Once a pillar for the black community and a model for fatherhood, Bill Cosbys more than 50 accusations of sexual assault and rape have diminished his reputation. Maintaining a non-guilty plea throughout the trial, Cosby stood strong in his defense that all interactions were consensual.
The 81-year-old famed comedian, has been the subject of an sexual assault trial which officially began September 24, 2018 and ended with a guilty verdict less than two days later.
Denying Cosby bail, county Judge Steven O’Neal stated “It is time for justice. Mr. Cosby this has all circled back to you”
Cosby will be added to the Sex Offenders List and will have to serve three to ten
years in prison.
Some are saying this is the first of many wins to come for the #MeToo movement, after on of the main testifiers in the trial Janice Dickerson testified that she did not come forward when it happened because she was afraid of the backlash that her career would face if he retaliated. Others feel that Cosby is the only reason that they know what a healthy black marriage look like (The Cosby Show) or the reason why the went to college (spin-off: A Different World) and there needs to be more proof of these allegations.
